Ian McCaw has served as Liberty University’s Director of Athletics since 2016, leading the department to unprecedented competitive, academic, and spiritual success. Under his leadership, Liberty has captured more than 100 conference championships, achieved top‑100 finishes in the Learfield Directors’ Cup, and completed one of the most successful FBS transitions in NCAA history—including six straight bowl‑eligible seasons and the program’s first New Year’s Six bowl appearance in the 2024 Vrbo Fiesta Bowl.
McCaw has overseen Liberty’s move to Conference USA, record growth in the Flames Club, major fundraising milestones, and the highest cumulative student‑athlete GPA and Graduation Success Rate in school history. Liberty teams have also demonstrated exceptional community engagement and spiritual impact.
Before Liberty, McCaw spent nearly two decades as an athletics director at Baylor, UMass, and Northeastern, guiding programs to national championships, major bowl appearances, significant academic achievements, and transformational fundraising and facility development. A nationally recognized leader in collegiate athletics, he has earned multiple NACDA Athletic Director of the Year honors and served on numerous NCAA and national committees.
McCaw holds degrees from Laurentian University and the University of Massachusetts and is married to his wife, Heather. They have four children.
